About Luke Dragstra – Head Coach at Trimate

Luke Dragstra was born and raised in Canada, where he and his two brothers were immersed in club sports from an early age.

In his early teens, Luke focused on running, chasing dreams of the Olympics and major marathons. After four years of varsity running, he discovered triathlon — a sport where his performance continued to improve, unlike in running, where he had plateaued.

That discovery led to years of full-time racing and world travel, training alongside some of the best triathletes and coaches in the world. These experiences shaped not only his athletic career but also the coaching philosophy he uses today.

For the past decade, Luke’s primary passion has been coaching. While he still trains and competes, his greatest satisfaction now comes from helping others achieve their goals.

Expertise

In recent years, Luke has served as Head Coach of the Nordic Triathlon Development Team, where he worked closely with promising young athletes to help them build a career in the sport — just as he once aimed to do himself.

Luke coaches athletes of all levels, from first-time triathletes aiming to complete their first sprint race to elite competitors chasing podiums as well as athletes going after goals in the new juggernaut sport of Hyrox. He especially enjoys guiding people from feeling “very unfit” to crossing the finish line of events they once thought impossible.

Hyrox Deep Dive

Two male athletes pose for a photo after competing in a Hyrox event, with a timer showing a completion time of 59:25 in the background.

Hyrox has blown up into one of the fastest growing sports recent years and Luke has had a crack at it with some success.
He’s won multiple flags (you get a flag instead of a Medal for podiums) and qualified for the 2026 World Championships in the Pro Doubles 50-54 Age group.
The lure of this new sport was inevitable and Luke has finished the Hyrox Affiliate Coaching program and has adapted his coaching philosophy to build comprehensive Hyrox training programs.
