I’ve been doing a bit of recruiting and have some exciting and highly motivated new athletes for 2025. I’m putting a little more time into the coaching again as I’ve quit my day job and joined the local Räddningstjänst (part time fire fighting) so this is going to be fun! I’ve still got a few young fella’s (younger I should say – the new guys and gals are pretty young too (I guess most people seem young when you get old) so the new faces make good training partners for them as well. They all come with different strengths but can push (or punish is perhaps more accurate) each other well in the different disciplines. A few of them came over from high level motocross racing which has multiple crossover benefits to triathlon least of all They’ve all got big goals for next years IM 70.3 and IM so we can work through the program on the same timeline (yes, WE – I’m probably in for the 70.3 next year if I can keep up with these fireballs in training in the spring – but no IM – yet! ;))

We are well into off-season training and I’m putting a little extra effort into swim technique and trying to get them to enjoy swimming. Swim training is pretty boring for most triathletes so the only way is for them to see the progress they are making and acknowledge the benefits. It seems to be working and I see some excitement in the pool. Swimming is the discipline in triathlon that supports the other two sports best. A lot of running can take the sting out of the bike and doesn’t help with swimming. A lot of biking can help with run strength but doesn’t do much for your swimming either. Because swimming has the least impact and you use a lot of different muscle groups there is some benefit to running and biking as you can push a lot of intensity in the pool and recover easier. Plus, improvements in swim technique stick as long as you keep some level of consistent training going so once you’ve achieved a certain level of efficiency you’ve got free speed without needing to increase volume. This is less the case with running and biking.

Anyway, the group is definitely making some gains in the pool and looking a little bit more like swimmers.

We have room for a few more in the group so if you want a coach who can see you at sessions and have a motivated and positive squad to meet up with for training just give me a shout.
